John Wenzel approached the team at Fireman Creative in need of a dynamic resume website to help him take the next step in his career journey. With the help of the new website, he was able to land a great job, and he even decided to keep it afterward because he likes it so much.
The team and I started designing this project with the intention of bringing fun, colorful flair to the subject matter, which can skew academic and dry. We wanted to do justice to the cool, colorful bugs that John studies.
We developed a style guide with modern fonts, a fun color palette, and a mood board full of creepy and colorful insects. Then, we began to design the site. We wireframed in Adobe XD, then translated the wireframes to a high-fidelity prototype.
The website went through a lot of design changes as requested by the client during the process of the build in Elementor, but we retained the whimsy and focus on displaying the beautiful imagery of the insects. One of the aspects of this project I enjoyed most was getting to design a custom icon for use as the website favicon and webclip. It's based on a honey wasp.
